Ultherapy Q & A
What is Ultherapy?
Ultherapy is a noninvasive treatment to address the effects that gravity and aging have on your skin. The ultrasound treatment uses your body’s own healing mechanisms to lift skin and smooth visible lines and wrinkles.
How does Ultherapy work?
The ultrasound technology employed by Ultherapy penetrates deep beneath the skin to boost your own natural collagen production. Collagen is the protein that’s a major contributor to skin strength and elasticity. As you get older, your natural production of collagen declines. When you boost your body’s production of fresh, new collagen, your skin restores itself to a more youthful appearance and tone.
What areas can be treated with Ultherapy?
Ultherapy addresses lax skin on the face. Specific treatment areas include:
- Neck
- Under the chin
- Eyebrow
The ultrasound treatment may also transform the skin on the chest, too.
How is Ultherapy unique?
Ultherapy involves no creams, incisions, stitches or blood loss. There’s no risk of infection and no long recovery times.
Unlike lasers, Ultherapy uses sound energy that bypasses the surface of the skin to reach depths where collagen can restore skin firmness and tone. Lasers use light energy and typically only treat the superficial layers of skin, so they don’t provide the same lifting results. Ultherapy reaches deep to your skin’s foundation to build firmer, smoother skin.
During an Ultherapy session, your doctor at McGuiness Dermatology & Plastic Surgery can see the actual layer of tissue to be treated. As a result, your session is modified according to your skin’s needs.
Do I need to schedule downtime following Ultherapy treatments?
Ultherapy is noninvasive, so you don’t have to schedule time for healing and recovery. You can go right back to your regular daily activities following a 60-90 minute session. You may experience some redness immediately after a treatment session, but this usually resolves within a few hours.
When will I see results from Ultherapy treatment?
You often observe an immediate glow following the ultrasound treatment, but optimal results appear within two to three months as your body needs time to regenerate collagen. Every person responds differently to Ultherapy and your natural aging process dictates how long it takes for you to see noticeable changes.
