Age spots are a type of hyperpigmentation that form from excess sun exposure.
The skin’s ultraviolet (UV) rays trigger and accelerate the production of melanin (skin’s pigment). The tan you get during the summer is even a form of hyperpigmentation.
Age spots, on the other hand, do not spread evenly. Instead, they clump together, forming flat, dark patches of skin that appear on the face and other areas of the body that have been exposed to the sun.
