It’s no surprise that Botox remains the most sought-after minimally invasive trend in the world of cosmetics and aesthetics. Not only does this treatment soften wrinkles, it also prevents them from forming in the first place.
But what people may find surprising is that formulas like Botox can do more than pause the hands of time.
From jawline contouring to creating a more refined lip shape, our team at McGuiness Dermatology & Plastic Surgery can add subtle enhancements that perfectly complement your natural features.

What Is Botox?
You may know what Botox does, but do you know how it works? That’s a common question on a patient’s mind when considering trying Botox for the first time.
Botox injections use a purified form of botulinum toxin, a substance found in the natural environment, where it’s largely inactive. Don’t let the word “toxin” scare you; this formula has been FDA approved for aesthetic uses for over 20 years.
This “toxin” interferes with nerve signals, causing them to relax and preventing them from contracting.
Botox is one of many brands of “neuromodulators” or “wrinkle relaxers.” At Mcguiness, we also carry Dysport and Xeomin, both of which use distinct formulas that impact result onset and result duration. We may use one of these 2 formulas for your Botox treatment in Plano.
Dypsort spreads more easily than other formulas, making it ideal for larger areas like your forehead.
Xeomin contains no additional additives, making it the purest form of botulinum toxin. For patients who are allergic to added ingredients in the other formulas, we use Xeomin instead.
Softening Dynamic Wrinkles
Botox and other wrinkle relaxers are most well known for softening dynamic wrinkles—which appear with facial movement. Think of your skin like a piece of paper. The more you fold and crease the paper, the deeper the folds become—that same concept applies to your skin. When you work certain facial muscles to smile, squint, or frown, the overlying skin creases and folds.
Botox temporarily relaxes facial muscles, limiting—but never restricting—their movements. This way, the overlying skin doesn’t fold or crease and wrinkles can’t form. For patients in their early 20s, we recommend starting their injectable journey with preventative Botox to slow down the aging process before fine lines can settle in.

Whether you’re receiving preventative Botox or coming in for a touch-up, our injection sites for wrinkle relaxers include:
- Around the eyes (crow’s feet)
- Forehead lines
- Frown lines (also called “11s,” these small lines form in between the eyebrows)
- Smile lines
A Botox treatment in Plano cannot, however, smooth static wrinkles, or lines that remain on your skin while your face is at rest. Instead of Botox, we are likely to suggest another injectable known as fillers.

Lip Enhancements
Instead of lip fillers, which use a hyaluronic acid-based solution to add volume to your lips, you can try a Botox treatment in Plano.
When injected into the muscles above your lip, Botox alters the muscle signals, causing your upper lip to relax and flip outwards, giving it the name “lip flip.” This creates the illusion of fuller lips without actually adding volume. Patients who are hesitant about lip filler may want to begin with a lip flip, since the results are less drastic and last 3 to 4 months as opposed to fillers, which can last up to 1 year.
Gummy Smile
A lip flip also reduces the visibility of excess gum tissue when smiling—known as a gummy smile. Because the formula relaxes the upper lip, it essentially allows the lip to roll slightly upward, covering more of the gums and creating a more balanced, aesthetically pleasing smile. The effect is subtle yet significant.
Jawline Contouring
If grinding or clenching your teeth has given you a more square facial contour, we can use Botox to relax those muscles. This softens the jawline and shrinks those muscles over time, allowing for a more feminine, V-shaped profile.
Your Botox Treatment in Plano: From Start to Finish
For a more streamlined process, we offer consultations and injections on the same day. Here’s what to expect.
Consultation
We offer Botox treatments at three of our locations in the Dallas-Fort Worth metroplex, including:
- Plano
- Prosper
- Flower Mound

Before we begin the process, we start with a conversation to review your medical history. While Botox and other formulas are considered safe, they may pose a risk for certain individuals.
Therefore, we can determine that you are not a candidate for Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin if fall under the following categories:
- Have an infection near the injection site
- Are pregnant or breastfeeding
- Have a muscle or nerve disorder
- Are prone to seizures
Afterwards, we talk about whether Botox, Dysport, or Xeomin would be most suitable for your needs. We also go over each formula’s duration and when you should start noticing results.
Next, we have you make a series of facial expressions to help us determine which muscles to target. Before we begin injecting, we talk through the treatment plan with you and make sure you’re comfortable with where the injections will be placed.
Treatment
The injection process for your Botox treatment in Plano takes no time at all. In fact, most of the time dedicated to this appointment involves discussion and planning. Once the plan is in place, your injector administers the appropriate dosage and formula into the targeted muscles.
We make sure to leave you with some natural muscle movement, so you can still express joy when you see the results from your Botox treatment. Our team specializes in creating natural-looking enhancements, and our goal is to achieve results that are so subtle you would never suspect any injectable treatments were involved.
Post-Care Instructions
For best results, please avoid:
- Lying down for 4 hours afterwards
- Exercising or any activity that can cause sweating for 24 hours
- Touching the injection site for 24 hours
- Blood-thinning medications for at least 48 hours
Before you leave, your provider will give you more detailed instructions personalized to your unique treatment and post-care.
Results
You can expect to see results appear within a week of your consultation. Results duration varies depending on which brands we use.
- Botox: 3 to 4 months
- Dysport: 3 to 4 months
- Xeomin: 3 to 6 months
Pair Your Botox With The Following Treatments
A Botox treatment in Plano can soften wrinkles, contour your jawline, and enhance your lip shape. While this is an effective injectable, it works best when paired with other treatments to help you age gracefully and enhance your natural beauty.
Collagen-Inducing Treatments
Botox and other wrinkle relaxers stop your skin from creasing and folding, but they don’t fully stop the aging process from occurring. Your skin relies on collagen and elastin to keep it strong, firm, and flexible. As you age, your body’s production of these key proteins declines and leaves you more susceptible to skin laxity, fine lines, and wrinkles.
Our collagen-inducing treatments include:
Each of these treatments creates controlled injuries on your skin, setting off your body’s natural healing abilities and boosting your body’s collagen and elastin production.
Emface
As you age, you lose facial muscle tone, which causes the skin and facial fat sag downwards. Emface boosts collagen production and gives you a powerful facial workout. By applying high-intensity facial electrical stimulation (HIFES) to induce powerful muscle contractions, this device tones your facial structure and naturally lifts your skin to a more youthful position.
At the same time, it emits radiofrequency (RF) energy deep into the middle layer of your skin (the dermis—where collagen and elastin are stored) to provide additional lifting and skin tightening benefits.
The best part of all? It’s non-invasive and requires no downtime. Results can last for up to 1 year with maintenance.
Please note that while this treatment delivers natural and beautiful results, it won’t be near as dramatic or long-lasting as the surgical procedure known as a facelift—which we can also perform at McGuiness Dermatology and Plastic Surgery.
Facial
We believe that a facial is always a good pairing for any treatment to keep your skin healthy and glowing. At McGuiness, we offer the Hydrafacial, a 3-step process that cleanses the skin, extracts impurities, and delivers deep nourishment to improve both the health and appearance of your complexion.
We personalize this treatment to your unique needs, addressing skin-related concerns like fine lines, wrinkles, dullness, skin laxity, acne, and much more.
