At McGuiness Dermatology & Plastic Surgery, we want you to understand and remember this fact: nothing in skin care is one-size-fits-all.
From the products you use in your daily routine to the treatments that keep your skin strong and supple, customization is key. Even when it comes to facials. Your skin needs certain nutrients and ingredients in order for it to maintain a clear, radiant complexion. But each patient’s skin requires a unique approach.
At McGuiness, we offer the HydraFacial in Plano which follows the same steps for every patient. However, these steps include personalized ingredients formulated to target specific concerns, ranging from fine lines and wrinkles to acne and enlarged pores. HydraFacial targets it all and works for all.
If this sounds too good to be true, read this article where we explain how to customize your HydraFacial.
What is a HydraFacial?
A HydraFacial is a scientifically proven facial that significantly improves the appearance of skin. In just 3 steps, this facial promises to give you the best skin of your life.
Step 1: Cleanse
The first step in any facial should involve cleansing the skin. HydraFacial uses a nutrient-rich solution to hydrate your skin while penetrating deeper layers and dissolving any impurities. While cleansing is important, this step also includes a gentle, exfoliating chemical peel to reveal newer, healthier skin.
Step 2: Extract
Using the patented Vortex-Fusion vacuuming technology, your provider removes build-up from deep within your pores—painlessly. Not only does this clear your skin immediately, but it also reduces the likelihood of future acne breakouts.
Step 3: Hydrate
The final step for your HydraFacial in Plano saturates the skin’s surface with intense moisturizers and personalized nourishing serums to lock in moisture and soothe your skin. The serums address your unique concerns, helping to brighten, firm, and resurface your skin.
LED Light Therapy: An Additional Step
The LED Light isn’t a required step in the HydraFacial, but it’s a terrific addition, especially when treating wrinkles, acne, and redness. This final step infuses the serums deeper into your skin for enhanced results.
Lasers can significantly improve the health of our skin. A quick look at laser skin resurfacing treatments clues you in on the benefits of the treatment itself.

We recommend combining these treatments because the light helps boost your skin’s collagen and elastin production—2 proteins that keep your skin strong, flexible, and supported. As you age, your body’s production of collagen and elastin declines, leaving your skin to develop wrinkles, fine lines, skin sagging, and a dull, uneven texture. Light treatments, like the LED Light from HydraFacial, trigger your body’s natural healing response by stimulating collagen, resulting in smoother and firmer skin.
What HydraFacials Treat
Anyone can benefit from a HydraFacial treatment, even if you don’t have any concerns. With this facial, you can enjoy clearer skin, firmer texture, and a radiant glow. We could list every skin concern that the HydraFacial in Plano treats, but that would be too long. Instead, we cover some of the most common concerns that bring people into McGuiness.
Wrinkles and Skin Sagging
Whether you decide to include the LED Light Therapy or not, you’ll still boost production of elastin and collagen. Removing impurities from your pores stimulates the production of these 2 proteins, while accelerating skin cell turnover. Additionally, by using personalized serum boosters, our team can address wrinkles and sagging with collagen-inducing ingredients like peptides, hyaluronic acid, and growth factors.
Acne and Acne Scarring
Acne is estimated to affect around 85% of people between the ages of 12 and 24. While we often consider acne as a problem for teens, it can follow adults, mainly women, into their 30s and 40s. A quick visit to your local pimple specialist can help you determine the cause of your acne and a proper treatment to help you achieve clear skin.
The HydraFacial clears your pores and removes bacteria responsible for your acne. This works great with the necessary medications and at-home products prescribed by your dermatologist.
For acne scarring, the HydraFacial in Plano infuses serums to lighten scars, while the gentle exfoliation in the first step stimulates cellular turnover, resulting in a clearer complexion.
Uneven Skin Tone
Hyperpigmentation results from damaged skin cells producing too much melanin for your skin tone, leading to darker patches on the body. These spots can appear brown, black, red, pink, or gray, depending on your skin tone. Although harmless, patients often treat them to boost their confidence.
HydraFacials even out your skin tone by accelerating your skin’s cellular turnover rate, naturally evening out your complexion. With the targeted serums, we can minimize hyperpigmentation, giving you a brighter and more even skin tone.
Why Our Patients Love HydraFacial
This treatment is customizable and offers effective benefits, while also boasting the following:
Safe for All Skin Types
Because it’s so gentle, HydraFacial works for the most sensitive skin types. A rosacea dermatologist may even recommend it to patients struggling with redness and inflammation associated with the condition.
With its versatility and customization, anyone can benefit from HydraFacial. No matter how dry or oily your skin is, the serums and boosters will tackle the most challenging skin concerns gently and effectively.
Quick and Relaxing
The feeling of relaxation is commonly associated with the pampering and luxury of facials. The HydraFacial in Plano satisfies those expectations in a quick 30- to 45-minute process. We invite you to lie back and enjoy the moment of calm while we cleanse, exfoliate, and nourish your skin.
No Downtime
After your facial, you are free to resume your normal daily activities, but with more radiant and hydrated skin. You can even apply make-up right after the treatment, as long as your brushes, blenders, and other tools are clean.
Appropriate for Every Season
Some treatments work better in the winter, when you’re less likely to be outside and exposed to the sun. The HydraFacial doesn’t have those limitations, so you can experience the nourishing cleansing benefits year-round.

With the selection of serums and customizable ingredients, we can even address seasonal changes to your skin. Some serums will deliver extra hydration in the dry winter months, while others can reduce congestion and clogging when it’s more humid during spring and summer.
The HydraFacial Process at McGuiness Dermatology
We offer the HydraFacial in Plano, Prosper, and Flower Mound. Once you determine the most convenient location for your treatment, we can schedule your appointment.
Pre-treatment Instructions
Before your HydraFacial appointment, please follow these instructions:
- Arrive at your appointment with clean, makeup-, lotion-, and perfume-free skin.
- Drink plenty of water on the day of your appointment.
- If you received Botox, fillers, laser, or a chemical peel treatment, you must wait 2 weeks before coming in for a HydraFacial.
- Discontinue use of retinoids, glycolic acid, enzymes, or salicylic acid 48 hours before your HydraFacial session.
We will answer any and all questions when you call to book your appointment. If you have any concerns about the safety of your daily skincare products, please take this opportunity to ask us.
Treatment Session
On the day of your HydraFacial, we assess your skin and discuss your reasons for choosing this treatment: to clear up acne, give you firmer skin, or brighten your complexion. This helps us determine the best serums to use for your session. Next, we have you lie on your back and relax for the next 30 to 45 minutes as your provider gently follows the 3-step process to help you achieve radiant skin.
Results
You should notice immediate results after your HydraFacial in Plano. While your skin will feel more hydrated and moisturized, it will also look brighter and firmer.
Follow-up Sessions
To maintain your results, we recommend monthly follow-up sessions. We can discuss the frequency of sessions and a proper at-home skin care regimen during your visit.
Complementary Treatments
The HydraFacial works great as a standalone skin care treatment. However, we recommend the following services to enhance the health of your skin.
Microneedling
Using a specialized tool equipped with tiny needles, microneedling creates micro-punctures in your skin. While this may sound unappealing, patients often report only mild discomfort. This is a highly effective treatment that boosts collagen production, stimulates skin cell turnover, and allows for deeper penetration of serums and skin care products. Since the wounds are microscopic, the only visible result from microneedling will be firmer, healthier skin.
Emface
Emface helps anyone struggling with sagging skin, fine lines, and wrinkles. Available only at our Plano and Prosper locations, this device works like a needle-free facelift. Emface uses high-intensity facial electrical stimulation (HIFES) to provide a powerful facial workout, painlessly inducing up to 20,000 contractions in just 30 minutes. Simultaneously, radiofrequency energy gently heats your skin, boosting collagen production. Together, these 2 technologies deliver a more lifted, smooth, and contoured appearance.
Laser Skin Treatments
We have a variety of laser skin treatments that can address redness, fine lines, uneven texture, rosacea, scarring, and much more. Although you have to wait 2 weeks between your laser appointment and HydraFacial, combining these 2 treatments can deliver optimal results for a range of skin-related concerns. During your HydraFacial, we can talk about the best laser treatment for you and the ideal schedule to keep your skin glowing and healthy.
