Since this is a procedure that involves cutting and removing excess skin, some permanent scarring is inevitable. For women, these are usually located on the bottom halves of the breasts. Luckily, these areas are usually hidden with clothes. However, for men experiencing gynecomastia surgery, these scars will be visible when shirtless.

After your surgery, your provider will cover your breasts in bandages and you will wear a surgical bra to hold them in place. From there, a member of our team will place a tube under each arm to drain any extra blood or fluid. We will provide you with medicine to regulate pain and decrease the risk of infection. For the first week, your breasts will probably feel tender and swollen. We recommend wearing a surgical bra to support the breasts while they’re healing.
For the next 4 to 6 weeks, you’ll want to limit physical activity and do the following to help your breasts heal:
- Wear an approved surgical bra at all times.
- Take pain-relieving medication like acetaminophen.
- Wear loose, comfortable shirts.
- Use antibiotic ointments suggested by your specialist.
Taking the correct precautions throughout your post-care process is important to ensuring a safe and speedy recovery. At the time of booking, our team will explain the best ways to recover from your breast reduction treatment.
