Tethered Scars
Tethered scars occur when the scar tissue attaches to both the top layer of the skin and the layer of skin below. Because of this, the skin gets tethered down into an indented scar. Acne can cause this type of scarring.
Hypertrophic Scars
Hypertrophic scars are thick clusters of scar tissue. These scars develop directly at a wound site. They are often raised and red, and they can feel uncomfortable and can get wider with time. These scars can also stand out with hyperpigmentation or hypopigmentation.
Keloids
Keloids tend to be bigger than hypertrophic scars. They feel painful or even itchy. Their large stretch extends beyond the edges of an original wound or incision. Keloids can occur anywhere on your body, but they usually show up on parts of the body with little underlying fatty tissue. This includes the face, neck, ears, chest, or shoulders.
