What Is a Rhinoplasty?
A rhinoplasty is a surgical procedure that reshapes your nose. It can address:
- Nasal hump
- Wide nostrils
- Nose shape
- Upturned nasal tip
- Deviated septum
This procedure involves making an incision inside of your nose (a closed technique) or at the nasal base (open technique). Through these incisions, your plastic surgeon reduces or removes bone and cartilage to reshape and resize your nose to your desired look.
The surgery can take anywhere between 1 to 3 hours. After closing the incision with sutures, you’re able to leave the office as long as you have someone to pick you up.
Our Fellowship Trained Plastic Surgeon
Dr. Derek Sheen is our fellowship-trained facial plastic surgeon, specializing exclusively in aesthetic surgery of the face and neck. His advanced training in rhinoplasty, revision rhinoplasty, and facial plastic surgery allows him to improve both the appearance and function of the nose with precision.
Rather than focusing on the nose alone, Dr. Sheen evaluates how it relates to your overall facial structure. By considering your facial proportions and underlying anatomy, he creates rhinoplasty results that improve balance, preserve function, and look naturally suited to your features.
Dr. Sheen remains committed to refining his techniques and applying modern surgical approaches that emphasize long-term results, structural support, and individualized treatment planning.
Natural-Looking Results
Dr. Sheen sees the beauty in everyone and would never want you to look like anyone other than yourself. His thoughtful approach to rhinoplasty involves assessing your facial anatomy to give you results that still maintain your natural beauty, but with subtle improvements.
Functional Benefits
While a rhinoplasty is a cosmetic procedure, it boasts functional benefits as well. For patients with a deviated septum (when the bone and cartilage that divide the nasal cavities are off-center), breathing through their nose is more difficult. A rhinoplasty can correct and reshape the septum to restore and improve breathing function.
This surgery can also improve breathing if allergies, sinus issues, or narrow nasal airways are present. To address these concerns, we use the following methods:
- Inferior Turbinate Reduction: Removes excess tissue around the small bony structures inside your nose (turbinate bones) that become inflamed from allergies or infection.
- Nasal Valve Repair: Enlarges narrow nasal passages.
- Cartilage Grafts: Corrects a crooked nose or a low bridge and widens the nasal passages.
